Influence of biofilm formation on corrosion and scaling in geothermal systems - in-situ monitoring and testing of countermeasures in bypass systems (BioKS)

The influence of temperature on biofilm formation and the associated corrosion and scaling rate is being investigated as part of the BMWi project.
Investigations are carried out with different materials and different injection temperatures at various locations using a bypass system and additional laboratory experiments.
The aim is to establish whether there is significant growth of biofilm in investigated systems.
Fundamental studies are carried out on interactions between the fluid and a range of trace elements as well as between flow processes and a biofilm formation. Our aim is the development of recommendations for actions to promote a safe and efficient plant operation.
